The Costa Rican Government authorized the extension of the tourist visas through June 2nd, 2021, for those visitors who entered the country after December 17th, 2019.
To extend the visa, the visitor needs to have the COVID insurance (medical and lodging coverage) valid through that date (June 2nd, 2021) and is required to send the insurance information to the Costa Rican Tourism Institute ( in Spanish “ICT”) for the validation the insurance to the following email address
Please be aware that if the visitor overstays and do not proceed to send via email the proper insurance extensions, then that visitor will be deemed as a visitor with an “irregular migratory status” and is subject to deportation and impediment to enter the country for up to 5 years.
